Baseball Recap: Steel Valley Comes Up Short

Steel Valley lost against South Park last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ironmen fell 8-4 to the Eagles. The Ironmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Daevon Gaynor was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gaynor was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Steel Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Steel Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for South Park, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Steel Valley will square off against Sewickley Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Steel Valley is facing Sewickley Academy at the right time seeing as Sewickley Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for South Park, they will head out on the road to take on Burgettstown at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
