Dylan Henneke and Easton Jaeger made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Henneke tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jaeger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Henneke scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Jaeger scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lawson Fritsch and Jack Schley did most of the damage at the plate: Fritsch scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Schley went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Fritsch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Winford, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Fayetteville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Tomball Kings fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fort Bend Christian Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Homeschool in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.
Mikey Sharp was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Tomball Kings' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 10-12-1 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Avery Bell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Tomball Kings is 7-2 when Bell posts two or more runs, but 8-12-1 otherwise. Owen Wilkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Fayetteville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Tomball Kings, their loss dropped their record down to 15-14-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fayetteville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. However, it's not like Tomball Kings struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fayetteville came up short against Tomball Kings in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, falling 8-3. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
