Football Recap: Wood River Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Wood River had won five straight home games dating back to last season and Madden Brabec did his part to make it six on Friday. The Eagles strolled past the St. Cecilia Bluehawks with points to spare, taking the game 26-7 thanks in part to Brabec, who rushed for 110 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries, and also threw for 87 yards and one touchdown. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making nine total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Wood River didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brabec, Sawyer Thomposn, and Jace Martin picked up one apiece.

Despite the loss, St. Cecilia still got an impressive performance from Grady Zeckser, who rushed for 67 yards and one score on only nine carries.

Wood River's record now sits at 4-1. As for St. Cecilia, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wood River will welcome Fillmore Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Cecilia, they will square off against Gibbon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bluehawks will be up against the Buffaloes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.8 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
