Clinton is 2-8 against Brodhead since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will welcome the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clinton 3.8, Brodhead 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Clinton took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Whitewater.
Ashley Theisen looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ella Roehl was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Clinton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Brodhead got the win against East Troy on Friday by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Risum made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 5.2 innings pitched. Risum was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elliemay Allen, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tatum Ceslok, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Brodhead is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clinton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Clinton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brodhead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Clinton couldn't quite finish off Brodhead in their previous meeting back in April and fell 4-2. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
