After a string of five wins, the Morgan Township Cherokees's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Lafayette Jefferson 51-46. While losing is never fun, Morgan Township can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Lafayette Jefferson is ranked 47th).
Morgan Township's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keagen Holder, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Holder's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jack Wheeler, who scored 14 points.
Lafayette Jefferson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ah'keem Wilson out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The game was Wilson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Angelo Hausmanis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Morgan Township's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Morgan Township's road trip will continue as they head out to face Boone Grove at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Boone Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
