The Pleasant Plains Cardinals will challenge the Pittsfield Saukees at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Plains is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Pleasant Plains nor Lincoln made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Cardinals came out on top in a nail-biter against the Railsplitters, sneaking past 3-1. The win was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Anna Nestler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Pleasant Plains' victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Moore, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Moore has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Pittsfield made easy work of Rushville-Industry on Monday and carried off a 13-2 win. Considering the Saukees have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Pittsfield got a massive performance out of Presley Brown, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Lila Simon, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Pittsfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Pleasant Plains' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsfield, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pleasant Plains hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Pittsfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pleasant Plains came out on top in a nail-biter against Pittsfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Saukees have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
