Baseball Game Preview: Westview Chargers vs. McKenzie Rebels

The Westview Chargers will square off against the McKenzie Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Westview will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against University School of Jackson on Tuesday. The Chargers blew past the Bruins 13-4.

Graham Simpson and Cooper Spaulding were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Simpson tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Spaulding pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Simpson went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Spaulding scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CD Damron, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Thomas Myers was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, McKenzie came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 18-10 win.

The victory got McKenzie back to even at 8-8. As for Westview, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Westview skirted past McKenzie 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
