Baseball Recap: Westwood Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Westwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Fullington Academy Trojans by a score of 10-7. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly three runs.

Liam Rogers and Bryce Roberts made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Rogers struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Roberts struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rogers has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Rogers scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Roberts scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Those three hits gave Rogers a new career-high.

In other batting news, Karson Barwick was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. Westwood is 2-1 when Barwick posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sam Summerlin, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Westwood's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4. As for Fullington Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Westwood will have a chance to go back-to-back against Fullington Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
