Hollins hasn't had much luck against Clearwater recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Hollins will head out on the road to challenge Clearwater at 7:00 p.m. Hollins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Hollins easily dispatched Clearwater Central Catholic on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Hollins fell just short of Largo by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Royals have suffered since April 16, 2024.
Gianna Close made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
Even though they lost, Hollins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Clearwater fell victim to East Lake and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Tornadoes' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Clearwater saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juleah Patterson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Hollins' loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Clearwater, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-6.
Hollins' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. Hollins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Clearwater, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hollins continue to outrun the ball?
Hollins couldn't quite finish off Clearwater when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can Hollins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
