Even though the Lee Volunteers have not done well against the Brandeis Broncos recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Lee snuck past Brandeis with a 71-67 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Lee's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Brandeis is ranked 39th).
Leading Lee to victory were Debi Hernandez and Rosanelly Pastrano. Hernandez scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Pastrano scored 24 points along with three steals. Pastrano hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Sophia Alvarez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Brandeis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rian Forestier. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 44 points and 20 rebounds. That was a full 65.7% of Brandeis' points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Abigail Burdette, who scored ten points.
Lee is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. As for Brandeis, their loss dropped their record down to 22-9.
Lee will head out on the road to face off against Clark at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brandeis, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Madison at 6:00 p.m. Madison is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
