The Spring Lions will square off against the Aldine Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Spring comes in on 13 and Aldine on seven.
It was a proper cat-fight when Spring challenged Nimitz on Thursday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars.
Jesus Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Moises Arb, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Travis Ellis, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Spring was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aldine). They blew past Eisenhower 23-8 on Thursday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Isaiah Nunez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexander Martinez, who earned one RBI, three runs, and four stolen bases.
Spring pushed their record up to 19-8 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Aldine, their record is now 17-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Spring has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Aldine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Spring suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Aldine when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
