Mary Star of the Sea is 8-2 against Bishop Montgomery since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Stars will take on the Knights at 3:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Mary Star of the Sea will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Serra on Tuesday. The Stars put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 15-1 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Stars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Kaidence Sandoval and Trinity Martinez made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sandoval pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Martinez struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Sandoval has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sandoval got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Martinez got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Sandoval a new career-high.

Mary Star of the Sea always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Montgomery had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They never let the Mariners get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Macey Kim, who gave up just eight hits to keep St. Monica off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Garciaparra, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Abigail Green was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Bishop Montgomery's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Mary Star of the Sea, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-9.
Mary Star of the Sea might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Bishop Montgomery in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Stars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
