The 50th year of Lamar Rogers on the bench at
Clarkrange (Tenn.) brought him within 50 wins of the career leader among high school girls basketball coaches following the 2024-25 season.
The Buffaloes went 22-12 to give Rogers 1,351 career wins and 330 losses. Ranked No. 3 on the all-time list, Rogers has a chance next year to surpass Joe Lombard of
Canyon (Texas), who is No. 2 with 1,379 wins.
Overtaking all-time leader Leta Andrews of
Granbury (along with three other Texas schools), is likely at least three years away. During her 53-year career, Andrews won 1,416 games.
A total of 30 coaches have been added to career coaching wins list in the
MaxPreps National High School Girls Basketball Record Book the list thanks to new information as well as multiple coaches moving past the 700-win milestone.

Rogers will be one of seven returning coaches next year with over 1,000 wins. Rhonda Farney of
Georgetown (Texas) remains close behind Rogers with 1,317 wins following a 33-5 season.
Durwin Carpenter of
Pillow Academy (Greenwood, Miss.) moved past a milestone with 1,204 wins. Andy Zihlman of
Bishop Lynch (Dallas, Texas) is right behind at No. 10 with 1,172 wins.
Jeff Jasper of
Pascack Valley (Hillsdale, N.J.) moved into 14th place on the list with 1,134 wins while Mike Dreier of
New London-Spicer (New London, Minn.) rose to 18th place with 1,095 wins.
Kyle Jinks of
Fairview (Grant, La.) joined the 1,000-win club while winning a state championship. Jinks won his 14th state title and has 1,019 wins.
Two 1,000-win coaches who won't be back are Johnny Morgan of
McMinn Central (Englewood, Tenn.) and Jan Sojourner of
Jackson Academy (Jackson, Miss.). Morgan stepped down after 47 seasons with the Chargers with 1,107 wins – the third highest total in Tennessee history. Sojourner ended a 50-year career with 1,051 wins – the third highest total in Mississippi history.
A pair of coaches could go over 1,000 wins next year. Gina Skelton of
Wayne County (Waynesboro, Miss.) needs just eight wins (992) to reach 1,000 while Otis Smart of
Laney (Augusta, Ga.) needs 17 (983).
