The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central of Coosa County has five straight victories, Benjamin Russell has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Central of Coosa County was able to grind out a solid win over Horseshoe Bend, taking the game 55-47.
It was another big night for Queen Ballard, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 22 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Zyriah Johnson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Russell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 48-42 to Chilton County. While losing is never fun, Benjamin Russell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while Chilton County is ranked 128th).
Central of Coosa County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Benjamin Russell, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Central of Coosa County came up short against Benjamin Russell in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 37-29. Can Central of Coosa County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
