On Saturday, Winter Springs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 victory over Vanguard.
Winter Springs found their leader in underclassman Terell James, who scored 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of William Sanders, who scored seven points.
Despite the loss, Vanguard still got an impressive performance from D'Mareon Manning, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Kevin Campbell was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Winter Springs' win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Vanguard, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winter Springs will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Hagerty at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hagerty is on a four-game streak of home wins, Winter Springs a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Vanguard, they will head out on the road to face off against Berkeley Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berkeley Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vanguard in Florida (Berkeley Prep is ranked 45th, while Vanguard is ranked 158th).
