The Morning Star Academy Mustangs posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They blew past Unity Christian 60-40. Morning Star Academy pushed the score to 54-30 by the end of the third, a deficit Unity Christian cut but never quite recovered from.
Morning Star Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaac Yowell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Yowell pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Axtman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Unity Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Samm Wilbur and Graham Foust. Wilbur dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Foust scored 11 points. That was a full 40% of Unity Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory got Morning Star Academy back to even at 7-7. As for Unity Christian, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-13.
Morning Star Academy will head out on the road to square off against Galesburg Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Galesburg Christian is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Unity Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pathway Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pathway Christian is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
