Crestwood has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Camden Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Crestwood at home against Darlington as the squad secured a 39-12 victory. Given Crestwood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Darlington is ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javion Martin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Crestwood also got a significant boost from Azarian Yates, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 116 yards.
Meanwhile, Camden had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four two weeks ago. They blew past Darlington, posting a 41-6 victory at home.
Camden's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaquarius (jah) Mayrant, who picked up 101 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Grayson White, who threw for 175 yards and four touchdowns.
Crestwood has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in seven of their first eight games, giving them a 7-1 record. As for Camden, their victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-2.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Martin and White. Martin has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 222.4 passing yards and two passing touchdowns per game this season. For his part, White has averaged 250.6 passing yards and four passing touchdowns per game this season.
Crestwood took a serious blow against Camden in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 53-20. Can Crestwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
