Galesburg Christian's three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat East Moline Christian 55-10 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-8.
Galesburg Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaela Hall, who scored 24 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least 25% of Galesburg Christian's points. Lydia Reed was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Unity Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 51-34 to Quad Cities Christian. While losing is never fun, Unity Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 509th, while Quad Cities Christian is ranked 117th).
Despite the defeat, Unity Christian saw an underclassman step up: Emily Merema scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Merema scored a full 50% of Unity Christian's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amariah Catlin, who scored 8 points.
The losses dropped Galesburg Christian to 3-4 and East Moline Christian to 0-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's contest: Galesburg Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.3% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Unity Christian, though, as they've only made 23.9% of theirs this season. Given Galesburg Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Unity Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
