Overland and Cherry Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Overland Trailblazers will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cherry Creek Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Overland was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 63-62 to Eaglecrest. Overland has not had much luck with Eaglecrest recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Overland's loss came about despite a quality game from Siraaj Ali, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and three steals. Ali hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronald Henry, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 71-48 margin over Mullen. The score was close at the half, but Cherry Creek pulled away in the second half with 44 points.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Jeremiah Hammond and Jordan Leslie. Hammond had a solid game and scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Leslie was balling out in the loss, almost dropping a triple-double on 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
Overland's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Cherry Creek, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Overland have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Cherry Creek, though, as they've been averaging only 5.3 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
