The Southern Guilford Storm are taking a road trip to face off against the Eastern Guilford Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Southern Guilford will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Thursday, then bounced right back against Ben L. Smith on Thursday. Southern Guilford's pitcher stepped up to hand Ben L. Smith a 15-0 shutout. The Storm haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Kenly Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Brown was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Cemiah Barringer was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Madison Goins was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Southern Guilford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben L. Smith only managed two hits.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Eastern Guilford and Western Alamance had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Eastern Guilford lost 23-5 to Western Alamance on Wednesday. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Eastern Guilford saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Krista Gunnell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another was Maury Jerman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Eastern Guilford now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Southern Guilford, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Eastern Guilford's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southern Guilford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. It's a different story for Eastern Guilford, though, as they've only averaged .179. Will they be able to contain Southern Guilford's hitters?
Southern Guilford couldn't quite finish off Eastern Guilford when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can Southern Guilford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
