After flying high against the Roosevelt Cougars last Wednesday, Dewey came back down to earth. Dewey was beaten by East New York Family Academy 83-29 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Dewey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 69th).
It was another big night for Arianna Mercado, who scored 30 points along with seven steals for East New York Family Academy. That makes it six consecutive games in which Mercado has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. Olivia Eugene was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with six assists and three steals.
Dewey's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for East New York Family Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dewey will take on Midwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Midwood comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. East New York Family Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Friendship Collegiate Academy at 11:00 a.m. on January 13th. Friendship Collegiate Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
