The Steinbrenner Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 73-49 walloping at the hands of Sunlake. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Steinbrenner struggled afterwards.
When it comes to explaining why Steinbrenner lost, one person who can't be blamed is Justice Momrik. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Doug Jordan, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Sunlake can attribute much of their success to Nelson Marshall, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Marshall pulled down eight or more rebounds. Manntavius Goodman was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Steinbrenner's defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Sunlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Steinbrenner will be playing at home against Newsome at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunlake, Sunlake and North Tampa Christian Academy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as North Tampa Christian Academy comes in on five and Sunlake on three.
