Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Overton's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Overton barely beat LaPoynor the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Overton Mustangs put the hurt on the LaPoynor Flyers with a sharp 10-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Rylan Holleman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Holleman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryson Bobbitt, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Brody Brown also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Overton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. LaPoynor's loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coming up, Overton will welcome Chapel Hill at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. As for LaPoynor, they will be taking part in a tournament against Gladewater at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (LaPoynor: 4, Gladewater: 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
