The Yulee Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss. They lost to Clay at home by a decisive 44-28 margin. If Yulee hoped to take revenge for the 54-33 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Despite the defeat, Yulee saw an underclassman step up: Rheyna Hilton dropped a double-double on 13 points and 22 rebounds. Hilton hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Charron, who scored no points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Yulee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 31 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Yulee's loss was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Clay, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yulee will take on Harvest Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Harvest Community focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday. As for Clay, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against West Nassau at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th.
