Even though the Mercer Island Islanders have not done well against the Liberty Patriots recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Mercer Island came out on top against Liberty by a score of 54-46. The victory was familiar territory for Mercer Island who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mercer Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anna Grace marsh, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 assists. Grace marsh hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Monahan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyra Koxlien. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Koxlien has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kyndall Tokish, who scored five points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercer Island only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Mercer Island is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Liberty, they dropped their record down to 11-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Mercer Island will take on Interlake at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Interlake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Mercer Island is ranked 35th). As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to take on Bellevue at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
