The Bay Tornadoes suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Wednesday. They were beaten by Rutherford 72-26. Bay has struggled against Rutherford recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Bay lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Taylor Carlson, who scored six points.
Bay struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Rutherford to victory were Ava Butler and Braniya Baker. Butler went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists, while Baker dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 steals. Butler is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Nautica Bouie, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Bay has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Rutherford, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Bay will look to defend their home court on Friday against Chipley at 3:30 p.m. Hopefully Chipley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. As for Rutherford, they will head out on the road to challenge Graceville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
