After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dwyer, the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats were happy to have found some success on Friday. They managed a 83-79 victory over Leonard. Given Royal Palm Beach's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Lancers are ranked 430th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jayden Coney continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 37 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Canales, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Leonard lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emmanuel Augustin, who scored 21 points along with six assists and two steals. Augustin is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Reggie Presendieu was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Leonard were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Royal Palm Beach's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Leonard, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.
Royal Palm Beach will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Glades Central will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Leonard will take on the Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Wellington is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
