Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 26 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact the Independence Falcons proved on Wednesday. They blew past Bakersfield 56-28 at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Independence.
Independence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaylynn Bolden out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 23 rebounds. Bolden has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Ka'Rayah Robertson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Bakersfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Justice McCollum. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that McCollum scored 15 or more points.
Independence is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. As for Bakersfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-12.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Ridgeview the next time they take the court. Independence will head out to face the Wolf Pack at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Drillers will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
