While losing is never fun, Newberry Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Cambridge Academy is ranked 108th).
Cambridge Academy had a senior duo take command as Alex Cockrell scored six points along with nine steals and seven rebounds and Indya Southerland scored 12 points along with four steals. Cockrell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Izzy Southerland, who scored two points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Newberry Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.7 points per game. As for Cambridge Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Newberry Academy will be playing at home against Laurens Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cambridge Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Curtis Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Curtis Baptist's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Cambridge Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
