The Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs will square off against the Olympic Heights Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dr. Joaquin Garcia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Oxbridge Academy on Wednesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the ThunderWolves.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was E Lipp, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. A Johnston also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Olympic Heights came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 22-5 win. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kaitlyn Courtney made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Courtney was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Olympic Heights got a massive performance out of Alexa Gleichenhaus, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Phillips, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
Olympic Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Olympic Heights' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.7 runs over those games. As for Dr. Joaquin Garcia, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dr. Joaquin Garcia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Olympic Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .569. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
