Basketball Recap: Springfield Piles Up the Points Against Red Rock Central

Springfield lost to Red Rock Central back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Springfield Tigers blew past the Red Rock Central Falcons, posting a 94-49 victory. The Tigers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Leading Springfield to victory were Brecken Heiling and Bryan Buerkle. Heiling went 10 for 15 on his way to 24 points, while Buerkle almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Buerkle's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Kuehn, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Red Rock Central lost, don't look at Abe Stavnes. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 14 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Stavnes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Stavnes, who posted 12 points and five assists.

Springfield pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Red Rock Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Springfield won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Springfield's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Red Rock Central, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Mountain Lake/Comfrey at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
