Poquoson and York are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Islanders will square off against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. York took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Poquoson, who comes in off a win.
On Friday, Poquoson made easy work of Jamestown and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Natalie Klochak tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Brooklyn Mason was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Alyssa Laney was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and one triple.
Poquoson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, York came up short against New Kent on Wednesday and fell 7-2. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leslee Maldonado made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs. Miah Mosquera-Armstead also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Poquoson's record is now 11-2. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Poquoson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Poquoson came out on top in a nail-biter against York in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Islanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
