The Garfield Bulldogs will face off against the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Garfield will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Friday, then bounced right back against Marshall on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Barristers. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Nadia Carrillo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madilyn Mu?oz, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Sofia Frias was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Garfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Barristers 11-1.
Like Garfield, Port of Los Angeles also got a great game from a two-way player: Alyssa Setka. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Setka was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Nevaeh Randall was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Samantha Russell, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Garfield is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Port of Los Angeles, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Garfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. However, it's not like Port of Los Angeles struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Garfield was able to grind out a solid win over Port of Los Angeles when the teams last played back in May of 2023, winning 6-1. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Polar Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
