Baseball Recap: Raymondville Wins Going Away Against Progreso

After losing to Progreso the last time they met, Raymondville decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Raymondville was the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Progreso on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bearkats, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Larry Perez made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noel Reta, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Raymondville is undefeated when Reta posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Diego Villegas, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Raymondville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Raymondville's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Progreso, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Raymondville will face off against Zapata at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Progreso, they will challenge Lyford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
