Basketball Game Preview: King City Mustangs vs. St. Francis Sharks

King City is 0-7 against St. Francis since January of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The King City Mustangs will face off against the St. Francis Sharks at 5:30 p.m. St. Francis took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on King City, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row dating back to last season, King City turned things around against North Salinas on Saturday. They ended the year with a bang, routing the Vikings 46-25. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

King City can attribute much of their success to Amity Hearne, who posted six points and eight rebounds. Hearne is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janesa Lopez, who had 11 points.

King City was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, St. Francis came up short against Scotts Valley on Friday, falling 58-37. The match marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

St. Francis' loss ended a 14-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2. As for King City, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.

King City was dealt a bruising 69-31 defeat at the hands of St. Francis when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point King City was down 36-11.
