Basketball Recap: John F. Kennedy Catholic's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

John F. Kennedy Catholic entered their contest against Lutheran East on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles lost 99-73 to the Lutheran East Falcons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (56), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, John F. Kennedy Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Didi Ryan went 12 of 24 on her way to 28 points along with eight assists and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ryan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Pompelia, who posted 21 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, John F. Kennedy Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Lutheran East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakota Porter, who had 16 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists. Porter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Tayvea Caldwell, who put up 20 points and six boards.

John F. Kennedy Catholic's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-1. As for Lutheran East, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

John F. Kennedy Catholic and Lutheran East should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. John F. Kennedy Catholic (ranked 57th) will meet Springfield (ranked 294th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. John F. Kennedy Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. Similarly, Lutheran East (ranked 28th) will meet Lebanon (ranked 151st) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
