Chaparral is 0-10 against the Cardinals since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chaparral Roadrunners will head out on the road to face off against the Cheney Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Chaparral has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Chaparral beat the Indians 51-45.
Chaparral's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylee Swartz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Auburn Hill, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.
Meanwhile, Cheney beat the Owls 41-33 on Tuesday. Given Cheney's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Owls are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Cheney's record is now 10-3-1.
Chaparral and the Cardinals were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but the Roadrunners came up empty-handed after a 49-48 loss. Can Chaparral avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
