The two longest active high school football win streaks in the nation belong to a pair of schools who now own the longest all-time win streak in their respective states.
Riverheads (Staunton, Va.) has won 50 games in a row (including one by forfeit) after finishing 14-0 last year. The Gladiators will be under new leadership this year, however, as longtime coach Robert Casto has stepped down after 26 seasons and nine state championships. Riverheads has won the last six VHSL Group 1 championships under Casto. Last year, the Gladiators broke the state record of 45 in a row, previously held by Phoebus.
Bixby (Okla.), meanwhile has 49 straight wins and is now the all-time longest streak in the Sooner State. Bixby broke the record of 48 in a row, held by Wagoner. The Spartans will be looking for their fifth straight Oklahoma state championship.
Other teams in the top 10 for longest active streaks include Westlake (Austin, Texas) with 40, Andale (Kan.) with 38, Catholic Central (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and John Milledge Academy (Milledgeville, Ga.) with 36, Royal (Royal City, Wash.) with 33, West Side (Dayton, Idaho) with 32, Shiner (Texas) with 30 and Chardon (Ohio), Oakland (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Center Grove (Ind.) with 28 each.
