Riverview Sarasota fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakewood Ranch on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Rams' first of the season.

The result came thanks to Allison Cole's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Riverview Sarasota saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Trandem, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Seminoles get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Cougars have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Erin Sugg and Erin Griffith made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sugg tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Griffith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Sugg scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Griffith scored two runs while going 1-for-2. What's more, Sugg posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Olivia Lockhart was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Victoria McMahon was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Cardinal Mooney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cardinal Mooney pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Riverview Sarasota, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 14-1.
Everything went Riverview Sarasota's way against Cardinal Mooney when the teams last played back in February of 2021, as Riverview Sarasota made off with an 11-0 win. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
