Buena is 6-1 against Camarillo since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Buena Bulldogs will be home for the holidays to greet the Camarillo Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Buena, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 76-62 loss to Chaminade. While losing is never fun, Buena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while Chaminade is ranked 79th).
The losing side was boosted by Luke Ortiz, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. He scored a full 45.2% of Buena's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh ullegue, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Camarillo entered their tilt with Newbury Park with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Camarillo blew past Newbury Park 67-29 at home.
Buena has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Camarillo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Buena was able to grind out a solid win over Camarillo in their previous matchup back in March, winning 65-55. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Camarillo's Marcos Jaquez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Buena to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
