Baseball Recap: Moultonborough Academy Has No Trouble Against Pittsburg

Moultonborough Academy barely beat Pittsburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Moultonborough Academy blew past Pittsburg 14-4 on Wednesday. With that win, Moultonborough Academy brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Brett Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Gundersen, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmitt Clifford, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Moultonborough Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.

Moultonborough Academy's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Pittsburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moultonborough Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lin-Wood at 4:00 p.m. on May 5. As for Pittsburg, they will head out to challenge Gorham at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
