Even though Foard scored an imposing 66 points on Tuesday, St. Stephens still came out on top. St. Stephens took their game against Foard 76-66. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 11 to 4 on the offensive boards, as St. Stephens did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Stephens to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hayden Hillman, who went 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 2 assists. Hillman has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Noah VanBeurden was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, West Iredell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Statesville, falling 70-30. While losing is never fun, West Iredell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 594th, while Statesville is ranked 245th).
St. Stephens now has a winning record of 9-8. As for West Iredell, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.
St. Stephens took their win against West Iredell in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 81-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Stephens since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
