Greencastle has gone 9-1 against South Vermillion recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will venture away from home to face off against the South Vermillion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Greencastle's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
If Greencastle beats South Vermillion with 58 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Greencastle came out on top against Edgewood by a score of 58-46 on Saturday.
Greencastle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevin Long, who went 6 for 10 en route to 15 points and three steals. Nathan Sutherlin was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Vermillion, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-42 win over Fountain Central on Friday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Mustangs are ranked 427th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Vermillion's win came from a few key players Greencastle will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dallas Coleman, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Those 18 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Wallace, who posted 16 points and seven assists.
South Vermillion's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Greencastle, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Greencastle has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.5 boards per game. However, it's not like South Vermillion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Greencastle was able to grind out a solid victory over South Vermillion in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 61-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greencastle since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
