Grantsville has gone a perfect 3-0 against Emery recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cowboys will square off against the Spartans at 10:00 a.m. Grantsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Grantsville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past North Sanpete 12-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.
Hayden Bytheway made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Bytheway was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eden Ressel, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brynn Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Grantsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Sanpete only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Emery came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 8-4. Eight seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Katelyn Nielson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of TaiLynn Minchey, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Emery's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Grantsville, their record now sits at 22-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Grantsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Emery struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Grantsville beat Emery 11-8 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
