The Harlan Hawks came tearing into Saturday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Jay with a 51-46 win. For Harlan, this counts as revenge for the 58-57 defeat Jay walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.
Harlan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexa Romero, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Flores, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Jay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sincere Jackson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Ny'ashia Barnes was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Harlan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Jay, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Taft the next time they take the court. Jay will host Taft at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Harlan will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
