There's no place like home for the Fort Myers Green Wave, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Wednesday. They snuck past Dunbar with a 49-43 win on Thursday. Given Fort Myers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Dunbar is ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Myers had a senior duo take command as Marquielle Tory scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals and Therry Theresias scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Tory's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Alex Thelusma was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Garyan Burger, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobey Babernitch, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Fort Myers pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Dunbar, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Fort Myers and Palmetto Ridge will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Palmetto Ridge will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Dunbar won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Fort Myers at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in North Fort Myers' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
