The Greenwood Eagles will challenge the J.L. Mann Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Greenwood beats J.L. Mann with seven runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Eagles walked away with a 7-3 win over Aiken on Saturday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Fighting Green Hornets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Elliott Lantz looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jameson Pate was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jayden Adams, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, J.L. Mann got themselves on the board against T.L. Hanna on Friday, but T.L. Hanna never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Yellow Jackets. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Yellow Jackets on their field since April 3, 2023.
The result came thanks to Josh Carlson's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because J.L. Mann is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaido Greene, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
J.L. Mann is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Greenwood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like J.L. Mann struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Greenwood took their win against J.L. Mann in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
