Akron is 1-6 against Fleming since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Both teams will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Akron has not done well against Wray recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Akron really took it to Wray for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-23 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-10.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Akron to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kashlee Randel, who scored 17 points along with six assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Randel has scored all season. Kinsey Grauer was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Fleming sidestepped Prairie for a 37-35 win. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Fleming has scored all season.
Akron now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Fleming, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Akron skirted past Fleming 41-38 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Will Akron repeat their success, or does Fleming have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
