Norview is 9-1 against Norcom since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Norview Pilots will head out on the road to face off against the Norcom Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Norview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Norview was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-45 to Manor. While losing is never fun, Norview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Manor is ranked 16th).
Despite their defeat, Norview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Leyla Minor, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The game was Minor's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Hayes, who scored 12 points.
Norcom has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 32 points or more this season. They blew past Churchland, posting a 65-20 victory on the road. That's two games straight that Norcom has won by exactly 45 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Norview and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Norcom, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Norview against Norcom in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 87-30 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Norcom's Tia Johnson, who scored 22 points. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Norview to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
