After flying high against the Pueblo Warriors last Thursday, the Salpointe Catholic Lancers came back down to earth. Salpointe Catholic took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cienega. It was the first time this season that Salpointe Catholic let down their fans at home.
Salpointe Catholic lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Logan Martinez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bobby Smith, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Cienega's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden Rodgers led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Isaac Sdobnev was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Salpointe Catholic's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7. As for Cienega, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salpointe Catholic will take on Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Flowing Wells has now lost 17 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 22. As for Cienega, they will be playing at home against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Buena is ranked 69th, while Cienega is ranked 61st).
